In July 2024, an exhibition was held at Vilnius Town Hall to celebrate the 85th birthday of Antanas Sutkus. Some of the showcased photographs reflect a bygone reality, with black-and-white photography infused with vivid and colorful narratives and deep emotions. Sutkus’s photos are an enduring gift, revealing and preserving the world of the past and capturing the essence of a bygone era. Sometimes, these photographs almost allow one to sense the smell of the air, to feel its warmth. Through a sensitive, stylish gaze and boundless talent, Sutkus immortalizes a world centered on a cherished theme: his beloved Lithuania, where its people, landscapes, and life are depicted. The exhibition, organized in honor of Sutkus’s 85th birthday, featured one photograph for each summer of his life, complemented by a few of his favorite images. Most of the displayed works were printed during their creation period, often at the beginning of their independent journey, and many had not been exhibited in Lithuania before.
