The Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania declared 2018 as the Year of Vydūnas.
Associated with Little Lithuania, Vydūnas was a prophet of the reborn Greater Lithuania. His efforts to awaken Lithuania remain insufficiently recognized and require our acknowledgment. Paraphrasing Vydūnas, our task in the global world, in the face of emigration flows, is to foster universal values through the national awareness of youth. Vydūnas cared about human and spiritual values. His thoughts suggest respect for the individual, respect for one another. It is paradoxical, but today we feel immense spiritual and material separation and alienation. If we do not talk about Vydūnas while commemorating the 150th anniversary of his birth, we will lose our inner freedom. He offered us a path. Perhaps it is worth getting to know him?
The project is aimed at schoolchildren, for whom professional artists will conduct interactive art sessions to help better understand Vydūnas and the language of contemporary art.
The goal of the project is to introduce schoolchildren to the teacher, philosopher, thinker, and scholar Vydūnas and his legacy in an interactive, engaging, and youth-friendly format.
The path of Vydūnas’ life and work will be presented using visual materials (photographs), based on historical sources. An educational game has been created – 4 puzzles – which will allow schoolchildren to piece together: Vydūnas’ portrait, his harp, a 200-litas banknote, and Rambynas Hill, where Vydūnas and his friends organized song festivals. Additionally, during the art sessions, students will have the opportunity to try mixed media techniques, interpreting the path of Vydūnas’ thinking, life, or creativity.
The sessions will be conducted by professional artists Jurga Barilaitė and Eglė Ridikaitė, who will engagingly and playfully introduce schoolchildren to contemporary art and its forms of expression.
The project is aimed at students aged 10–16. Each session will involve 20–25 students. The sessions will take place from May 17th to 31st.
