Audiovisual Project “Vilnius Legends Today”

The audiovisual project “Vilnius Legends Today” offers a cinematic, live music, and theatrical journey through the Vilnius Town Hall and its underground spaces. From the moment of entering the Town Hall, visitors are greeted with theatrical performances. Within the Town Hall’s spaces, viewers could experience ten short films, including historical dramas, fictional narratives, and documentaries. The journey through the past culminates in a story set in the mysterious cellars of the Town Hall.

The films-legend presented include:

  • “The Dominican Monastery Cellars”
  • “The Basilisk of Vilnius”
  • “The Hill of the Tower”
  • “St. Peter and St. Paul Church”
  • “The Ghost of Sigismund Augustus and Queen Barbara”
  • “The Magician Tvardauskas”
  • “The Eternal Jew”
  • “The Demons Among the Sacred Sites”
  • “The Icon of St. Mary in Antakalnis”
  • “The Legend of the Mysterious Foreigner”
  • “Užupis – The New City Legend”
  • “The Executioner of Vilnius City: Terrifying Pages of the Past”

The project was carried out in collaboration with the Audiovisual Arts Industry Incubator filmmakers, VšĮ “Ramūno ateljė”, and the young vocal ensemble B2 from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.

The event directors were Inesa Kurklietytė and Ramūnas Abukevičius.

The team of young filmmakers included: director Laurynas Valkiūnas, cinematographer Erdvilas Petras Abukevičius, producers Laurynas Mataitis and Roberta Balčiūtė, and sound designer Kipras Čėsna.

Live music was provided by the professional ensemble B2 from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, along with students Eglė Rudokaitė (organ) and Miglė Sakavičiūtė (harp).

The project took place across all the rooms of the Vilnius Town Hall: the first and second-floor halls, the Great Hall, the Chamber Hall, the Gray Hall, and the cellars. Visitors not only enjoyed the visual aspects of the project but also participated in the theatrical experience.
