Exhibition Details: The exhibition “Selfies of Dreams” by Vladas Oržekauskas was held at the Vilnius Town Hall from May 31 to June 28, 2022.
Artist Statement: The artist refers to the works displayed in this exhibition as digital images.
“My works are references to things that everyone sees but rarely notices. They are references to the world of objects’ shadows. I try to perceive and convey everyday items, found for example in a flea market or in my kitchen, as abstract forms, regardless of their daily purpose and the words that define them. I use photography and Photoshop without any idea of the final result. I have no plan; the working process is not a straight line connecting point A to point B. Rather, it is like a dream where seemingly insignificant details guide events in unexpected directions. In this regard, I never consider my works finished, as they could constantly change if not stopped. When I save my work on a hard drive, I see it as just a fragment of the process. Therefore, I could call my works ‘dream fossils’.”
The works are printed using sublimation technology, where dyes are transferred from paper to artificial silk under high temperature and pressure. All works exist in a single unique copy.
