Candlelight: Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons”

Date

2024 12 14

December 14th, 8:30 PM

Candlelight is a concert series performed by classically trained musicians. The stage is graced by solo pianists, string quartets, and other musical ensembles, who enchant and immerse the audience in beautiful sounds, while thousands of LED candles flicker and glow, illuminating the walls. It feels as if the non-burning light magically dances to the notes being played.

Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, which features barking dogs, summer storms, icy winters, and birds chirping in the spring, is one of the greatest examples of programmatic music in history.

Best known as a four-part masterpiece, it vividly portrays landscapes, evokes emotions and memories without words, and brings scenes to life. Even those unfamiliar with it can recognize the piece; it never grows old, outdated, or fails to amaze. The program also includes interpretations of works by French Romantic composer Jules Massenet, German-British post-minimalist composer Max Richter’s famous masterpiece, and Libertango by Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzolla.
