Can you believe M. K. Čiurlionis would be 150 years old? A man ahead of his time returns today through the language of contemporary art and music, interpreted and performed by world-renowned stars of piano, jazz, electronic music, and visual arts.

We begin 2025 with a special highlight—giving a voice to M. K. Čiurlionis himself. On January 20, at the Vilnius City Hall, the piano duo Duo Zubovas will present a unique program, “The World of Čiurlionis,” specially prepared for this anniversary. This concert not only marks the grand beginning of the 150th anniversary of Čiurlionis’ birth but also serves as a symbolic bridge connecting the past and future, his creations, and our daily lives, asking: can you believe M. K. Čiurlionis is 150?

“The World of Čiurlionis” is not just a musical performance but also a meaningful creative journey that highlights the uniqueness and importance of Čiurlionis’ work to Lithuania and its cultural history. The program integrates all aspects of his art: music, painting, and literature. Divided into thematic sections, it explores the key spiritual dimensions of Čiurlionis’ work: love for Lithuania, its history, and folk songs; a profound sensitivity to nature and its spiritualization; and the artist’s intense contemplation of his place and meaning in the world.

The performance, played solo and four-handed on the piano, spans Čiurlionis’ entire creative timeline. It includes his symphonic poems “In the Forest” and “The Sea,” symbolically framing his worldview from the Lithuanian forest to the cosmic sea. Projected paintings enrich the music with symbols and signs, while his literary texts expand the experience with metaphors and the Čiurlionis spirit.

Let’s begin 2025 together with Čiurlionis’ music—a solid foundation for building a meaningful cultural and spiritual year. Welcome to the Year of Čiurlionis!
