FLUID IMAGE – invites the viewer to become a participant and co-author of the creative process without requiring any special skills. Works based on the preferences of an open work give a unique expression to everyone’s voice or movement, so embody yourself in changing images. The exhibition presents three possibilities of incarnations: the interactive installation FLUID IMAGE offers the viewer to participate in the work and create an image for himself – in micro and macro mindsets – by moving the knobs of the “console”, to experience and observe the effect of his movements on the screen. Another incarnation employs sound — human voice or music — as water waves replicate sound waves and capture this transformation of sound into image in photographs. The third group of incarnations is the transformation of radio noise, seemingly completely randomly caught acoustic meaninglessness into the most meaningful images. All works are united by fluidity, each time with the participation of the viewer, different unique information is embodied. Although in 1962 the concept of an open work, formulated by semioticist Umberto Eco, received recognition in the art world, technological challenges have only now allowed it to enter the field of visual design. With the help of magnetic fluid or water waves, acoustic or kinetic information visualized by the audience stimulated engagement, creativity, and self-reflection, while not requiring special abilities (e.g. to be able to draw or sing) and become a contribution to human well-being in this (post?)pandemic, war-torn world. Rūta Mickienė and Virginijus Mickus are designers and artists using different media and technologies in their work, which allow the viewer to become a co-author of the work, get involved in the work and experience the artistic result: from sound waves, visualization of the human voice using water vibrations to interactions of magnetic fluid and static magnetic field.
