From Ragtime to Swing

Date

2025 07 03

We’re excited to open this year’s festival with a vibrant outdoor concert by the Lithuanian Symphony Wind Orchestra (LSWO), performing under the historic colonnade of Vilnius Town Hall. Known for their energy, high-level musicianship, and diverse repertoire, the orchestra promises an unforgettable evening of music in the heart of the city.

The LSWO is a creative and open-minded ensemble, performing everything from classical works to contemporary music and popular genres. Over the years, they’ve shared the stage with many of Lithuania’s top soloists – from Giunter Percussion to Petras Geniušas and Vytautas Sondeckis. They’re also known for thinking outside the box, blending music with theatre, dance, and storytelling in performances that engage audiences of all ages.

Recent collaborations with actress and director Birutė Mar have led to charming, family-friendly musical shows like “The Little Wind in Trumpet Town,” “The Flight of the Trumpet,” and “Resonant Numbers.” Whether working with composers, creating new pieces, or launching educational projects, the orchestra is always looking for fresh ways to connect with listeners.

This time, they’re taking us back in time with a celebration of early jazz – ragtime, one-step, foxtrot, boogie-woogie, and swing. Get ready for catchy rhythms, joyful melodies, and that unmistakable sound of New Orleans and Chicago in the 1920s and 1930s. It’s more than music – it’s a feel-good journey through jazz history.
