At Vilnius Town Hall, different generations and distinct musical voices come together through a shared tradition inspired by the legacy of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The concert “A Wreath for Čiurlionis” will bring together young musicians from the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts and one of Lithuania’s leading professional choirs – Vilnius Choir.
The concert will open with the youngest generation of Čiurlionis School performers – the school’s junior choir, conducted by Saulė Kriščiūnaitė. The programme will continue with some of the most promising performers of the younger generation, laureates of international and national competitions: violinists Rokas Diržys and Emanuelė Jakštaitė, harpist Linė Lipnickaitė, saxophonist Gabrielius Martinez Martin, pianists Saulė Kundreckaitė, Elinga Stigaitė and Aronas Ruminas, flautist Saulė Bužinskaitė, and clarinettists Motiejus and Martynas Vilius.
The young performers’ programme ranges from preludes by M. K. Čiurlionis to virtuosic works by Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst, Pablo de Sarasate, Fryderyk Chopin, Claude Debussy, Johannes Brahms, Henriette Renié, Benjamin Godard, Eugène Bozza and George Gershwin.
The concert will culminate with the Vilnius State Choir, led by its Chief Conductor Artūras Dambrauskas. One of the defining features of the ensemble’s artistic work is its particular focus on Lithuanian and contemporary music, premieres of new compositions, and innovative musical projects. On the evening of 22 November, alongside the music of M. K. Čiurlionis, the choir will perform works by contemporary composers written especially to mark the Čiurlionis anniversary celebrated last year.
